As a member of the Concordia community, you have numerous opportunities to get involved! Almost all opportunities listed in the section “For Students” are open to all, so go ahead and explore our listings, whether you want to volunteer on-campus, off-campus or abroad!

Opportunities of the Week

 

Registration is now open for the LIVE Centre's next group volunteering event! Join us on Wednesday June 12th from 11am to 3pm as we will help Welcome Hall Mission respond to the basic needs of disadvantaged Montrealers. We will meet on campus (SGW) and make our way to the organization together, where we will sort donations in the food bank. Find out more here and reserve your place soon!

Canadian Liver Foundation is looking for volunteer to act as volunteer coordinator, organizing and engaging people in a wide range of tasks to support fundraising and other events. Working in collaboration with committee leaders for such events as the World Hepatitis Day BBQ on July 28th. Four to six hours a day, one day a week, for a minimum of 6 months. Do you enjoy contact with young people? Are you available once a week after 5 p.m.? If so, you could be animating activities this summer for Lasalle Boys and Girls Club. Activities such as yoga, dance, cooking, crafts, are offered to 6- to 12-year olds and to 13-to 18-olds. Contact Emily Gumy: 514.364.4661.

Pavillon Foster Addiction and Rehab Centre is seeking volunteers 1 or 2 days per week at their outpatient NDG office. Volunteers will be trained to administer standardized assessment tool with adult clients. The position involves directly assisting clients in completing the assessment, participation in case discussions and data entry. Volunteers will gain valuable clinical exposure to a diverse clientele. 6-month commitment. Ideal candidate would study psychology or similar field. Contact Nathalie Ordona for more info.

The Montreal FRINGE Festival is looking for volunteers for the 23rd edition of the Festival, June 4-23, 2013. Some volunteer shifts start in early May and all run through the festival. Volunteer positions range from venue management, box office and bike couriering to joining the Festival's Green Team. Minimum commitment 4 hours. They give you "FRINGE Bucks" for your volunteer hours, which you can use to get tickets to see FRINGE shows! Email Jo for more info.

Communicaid for Hearing Impaired Persons is looking for a volunteer typist for an event that will be held Tuesday June 4th from 5:30pm to 9:30pm at MAB-Mackay Rehab Centre (7010 Sherbrooke St. West). The volunteer should type fast with minimal errors (in English) to type what the speaker is saying. The text typed will be projected on a screen, enabling hearing-impaired participant to follow the conversation. Contact Ken Tatebe for more info: (514) 488-5552 ext 4500.

Dans la rue, a Montreal organization aimed at improving the quality of life of street youth while helping them to regain their autonomy, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. They are currently looking for a group of design or visual arts students to transform their 31ft motorhome into a float for the Santa Clause and St-Patricks day parades to celebrate. The Montreal Children’s Library is moving and they need a few hours of your time on May 28th, 29th or 30th. This community library referred to as "The little library that does big things for little kids" needs volunteers to box books, remove cabinets affixed to the walls and help get ready for the transport trucks. If you have 3 hours available on one of these days between 10am and 4pm and are up for this physical task, contact Helen Kyne at 514-931-2304.

Hosted by Virgin Radio 96, CHOM 97.7 and CJAD 800, the Montreal Children's Hospital annual Caring for Kids Radiothon on May 30th is seeking volunteers to call on past donors to renew their support. Individuals, groups, and organizations are invited to join us in raising money for The Children’s. Sign up online or email Judith Obadia.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation presents its 17th edition of the Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday June 9th at Centre de la Nature de Laval, located at 901, Avenue du Parc, Laval. They need volunteers for registration, security, entertainment, set-up, etc. Lunch will be provided. A free shuttle bus will be available from Cartier metro station every 30 minutes starting at 7am. Volunteers are needed at the St. Andrew's and St. Margaret's senior residences to help with recreational activities, friendly visiting, medical escort and feeding. A police check and character references are mandatory. Two information sessions will take place at CLSC NDG/Montreal West (2525 Cavendish) on Thursday, May 23rd at 1:30 pm and Friday May 24th 9:30am.
